Bab El Tabaneh (Lebanon): DEVELOPMENT

This is the story of three young men raised in the poorest neighborhood on the Mediterranean. "Bab El Tabaneh" located in the biggest city in north Lebanon - Tripoli. The film takes us in a journey into the underground, into the slum of all slums. The oldest of the three young's hasn't turned 24 yet. The story focuses on how they got trapped in the vicious circle of life, where violence, drugs or crime is the only way to release their frustration.
Waiting for Dawn (Lebanon): DEVELOPMENT

Fatima Khaweja was 19 when the Lebanese army killed her during a peaceful worker strike in 1972 outside Gandour chocolate factory in Beirut.
Waiting for Dawn takes viewers on a search for Fatima and through it on the search of the other ordinary men and women now living in obscurity, protagonists of the Gandour and Regie strikes, who once believed in the power of social movements to change their country.

BRITDOC and the Bertha Foundation

At IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam), a major new partnership was announced at a panel dedicated to the discussion of new funding. The Bertha Foundation is investing in BRITDOC’s future, joining the Board of Directors and launching two new funds worth £1.5 million to filmmakers over the next three years. At the outset, Steve James’s award winning The Interrupters and Soniya Kirpalani’s We The People are the first projects to receive support.

Entre tradition et modernité, les valeurs évoluent, se perdent, se retrouvent : les visions et perspectives d'avenir de ses habitants n'ont ainsi cessé d'évoluer au gré des mouvances de la société. Quelle est la place du souvenir au sein de cette nation qui a vu son histoire bouleversée, malmenée, et nouvellement hissée au rang de société moderne ? Quel témoignage du passé peut-on encore interroger au détour d'un regard, quelle empreinte vétuste peut-on encore percevoir dans les gestes du quotidien ?
