CNC's "World Cinema Aid" approved by the European Commission

Financial support is now available foreign audiovisual works co-produced with France

CNC's "World Cinema Aid" approved by the European Commission

Through a decision passed on February 6, 2012, the European Commission has authorised the National Film and Moving Image Centre (CNC) to establish selective aid packages for international initiatives which are co-produced with companies operating in France, so-called “World Cinema Aid”.

This new measure, conceived by the CNC in collaboration with the Mister for Culture and Communication, the Foreign and European Affairs Minister and the President of the French Institute, was one of the proposals notified to the European Commission in 2011 and which, due to the delay in the Commission’s decision, it was not possible to implement immediately on January 1, 2012.

The decision of February 6 opens the way for publication in the Official Journal of the French legal texts establishing the World Cinema Aid. The corresponding registration dossier at the CNC and the French Institute will be opened just after this publication, probably in the first two weeks of March.

This aid for world cinema meets a simple objective: offering international artists a unique point of entry, accessible to all and adapted to each of their needs.  It will be equipped with significant financial means to develop co-production projects with France. This aid will thus contribute towards simplifying the partnership between international filmmakers from the world over and French professionals, with a view to co-producing works.  This system will contribute towards promoting cultural diversity, France’s cultural influence and the renewal of its artistic production.
